Convertible yachts are sportfishing motor yachts with a dual-purpose layout that blends open-deck fishing functionality with the comfort of a cruising yacht. Their name comes from the convertible bridge—usually a flybridge or open upper helm—that gives excellent visibility offshore while still offering the features of a leisure yacht.
Most models measure between 12 and 24 metres and are built with deep-V hulls for speed and stability in open waters. A defining feature is the spacious aft cockpit, equipped for serious fishing with outriggers, rod storage, and livewells. Inside, they balance this practicality with a well-fitted cabin that includes sleeping quarters, a galley, and a comfortable salon.
The flybridge may be fully or semi-enclosed and usually includes a second helm for better control when fishing or navigating. Many boats also add tuna towers, heavy-duty winches, and advanced navigation systems to suit dedicated game fishing. Convertible yachts are especially popular in North America, Australia, and prime sportfishing regions such as Costa Rica and the Bahamas. They appeal to owners who want one boat that can handle both family cruising and serious offshore fishing without compromise.
