Builder Icon Yachts
Icon Yachts produces custom built luxury boats in the superyacht market which are presented here. The shipyard has no current production line models available.
The history of the company
Icon Yachts, a young Dutch shipyard, was founded in 2005 by Ton Van Dam and Canadian billionaire of Russian origin Alex Shnaider. The company is located in the north of the Netherlands in Harlingen, which is known for its rich shipping history.
In 2013, Discovery Channel made a documentary about work processes at the shipyard, which was released in six episodes called SuperYachts. Since then, millions of people have learned about the shipyard, far from the shipbuilding and yachting industry.
By 2014, the financial position of the shipyard had significantly deteriorated and the company was declared bankrupt. It was bought by the Russian billionaire Alexander Mazanov, who took the place of Alex Schneider.
The shipyard's production facilities are located in the port of Harlingen. The choice was not accidental. The port offers direct access to the sea (without passing through small channels and sluices), so there is no need for additional transport of the hull or the finished vessel.
The shipyard has a large dry dock capable of accommodating boats up to 150 meters as well as crane equipment with a lifting capacity of up to 4500 tons. In 2018, due to the increased demand for superyachts, the shipyard began to expand its production facilities and launched the construction of a floating dock that will almost double the shipyard's capacity.
The company has focused on producing reliable superyachts that meet the stringent requirements of northern latitude shipping, which has not been overlooked. In 2009 Lloyd's Register awarded Icon Yachts the ISO 9001: 2008 certificate.
The Icon Yachts portfolio consists of semi-custom fast boats and models for transatlantic crossings in lengths from 40 to 70 meters with steel and aluminum hulls. But the company is not going to rest on its laurels, especially since the production capacity allows more. New shipyard concepts include superyachts up to 145 meters long. Renowned studios are working on the design: Redman Whiteley Dixon, Tim Heywood Design, H2 Yacht Design et al.
In 2017, Icon was the largest purchase at the Monaco Yacht Show. The boat was built in 2010 for the future owner of the yard, Alexander Mazanov.
The Icon Yachts company is ready to realize almost any project. It takes less than three years to create a new yacht from the first sketches to hand it over to the client. For this purpose the shipyards clearly plan each stage of works and use modern technologies of modular construction.
