Overview of Perini Navi Parsifal III
For a long time Perini Navi was strongly criticized for the fact that its relatively heavy (steel) sailing yachts were more like motor-sailing yachts in terms of performance under sail. Parsifal III was the first yacht in which Perini Navi tried to change its image. Three important steps were taken while working on the boat: replacing steel with aluminum, replacing aluminum masts with carbon fiber and collaborating with a third party designer (Ron Holland). Another major change was made on the new boat - instead of a retractable (through the fin of the bulb) centreboard, the boat got voluminous wings attached to the bulb. They are also lead-filled and increase both static stability and lateral resistance on sharp courses. The owners are Kim and Nina Weib-Peterson. The head of the family is famous for inventing an ingenious coffee machine that can make coffee with whipped cream, among other things.
