The Cirkelbroen ( "Round Bridge") pedestrian bridge, designed by the famous Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, has opened in Copenhagen. The bridge is 40 metres long and consists of five round platforms of different sizes. In the centre of each circle a 'mast' is installed. One section of the bridge, which connects the banks of the Kristianshavn canal , opens to let boats through - this time already real boats. "One of my main sources of inspiration was my childhood in Iceland, where the harbour, where I spent a lot of time as my father was a sailor, was sometimes so full of boats that you could cross it by crossing fromone side to the other," Eliasson said in an interview organized by the Nordea-Fonden Foundation, which sponsored the construction.
