Damen launched the first hull of the SeaXplorer series of ice-class expedition yachts on October 31st. The 62-metre boat now awaits sea trials, after which she will depart for her owner in early 2020.

In addition to the powerful vertical ice-breaker bow, the shape of which was calculated by Damen naval architects, the first hull of this series is striking with its chameleon-like hull colour with a predominant shade of sea-wave. The exterior was polished by Azure Naval Architects and the interiors were custom designed by Carlo Toree of Monaco Yacht Temptation. He was suggested by the owner.

Damen first unveiled the SeaXplorer concept in 2015 at the Monaco Yacht Show. All SeaXplorer yachts carry a certified helipad and helicopter hangar, have several tender garages and large storage for food supplies and enough fuel for a month of autonomous sailing. It is the size of the vesselordered for himself by the Russian banker Oleg Tinkov. His SeaXplorer La Datcha is now being completed at the shipyard. Tinkov should receive his expedition yacht in September 2020.

The SeaXplorer lineup consists of 5 yachts ranging in size from 55 to 105 m. They are the first privately owned vessels certified by IMO (International Maritime Organization) as ice-class vessels of category B, which means they can sail in the sea in the ice thickness up to 0.6 m.
