One of the largest and fastest all-aluminium yachts, the 80-metre Heesen Project Cosmos has not yet been launched, but it has already become an object of interest to modellers. The participants of the Dutch-Belgian LEGO TV show LEGO Masters have created two such mini-megayachts out of LEGO. According to the conditions of the competition, the scale had to be 1:42, so the constructor turned out boats with a length of about 2 meters.

Inspiration
This is what the future flagship of the Dutch shipyard Heesen looks like on the rendering. «At the back of the boat there will be a four-sided cage» that runs parallel to the bottom from the stem to the stern like a backbone. The patented technology is called backbone by Heesen. This was essential to give the aluminium giant yacht sufficient stiffness without making it too heavy. The low weight and cleverly engineered hull will allow Cosmos to reach speeds of 29 to 30 knots.
Maintaining functionality
21-year-old Martin and Jos, the authors of one of the models, tried to reproduce not only the exterior but also the functional features of the prototype. For example, there's the retractable screen on which you can watch movies from the helipad. A total of 12,000 parts were required for this version of the Cosmos.
Secret technologies
Martin and Jos's rivals, Bjorn and Cornell, used a special, horizontal construction technique. This allowed them to make the boat look as much like a smooth 3D-printed model as possible. It took a lot of sweat to achieve that effect. The computer modeling took almost a week of pure time - 2.5 times more than the construction itself.
