Camper & Nicholsons is probably the most respected British company in the marine sector. It was founded by the ship Frances Amos in 1782, who hired his grand nephew William Camper. The master passed on his knowledge and experience to the young man and left him his brainchild after death. This is how the company was named Camper.
In 1842 Ben Nicholson (Ben Nicholson) came to the shipyard as an apprentice, who later became chief designer and in 1863 a business partner of Camper. By 1900 Camper & Nicholson was building J-class racing sailboats, fishing boats, and in 1914 the world's first large boat with a diesel engine Pioneer was born.
After the Second World War the company expanded its sphere of influence by opening a charter and brokerage direction. By the end of the 1950s, the company had decided on a way forward by choosing custom motor and sailing superyachts.
In 1999 Cammell Laird bought the shipyard, which later changed owners several times. Thus, today there are two separate companies - Camper & Nicholson Yachts (construction) and Camper & Nicholsons International (sales, service, etc.).
Until 2006, the company produced boats under the brand name Camper & Nicholsons in British Sport. After that the new owner of the Nautor Group transferred production to a factory in Finland, and nowadays the Italian ISA Yachts is used.
In the new millennium, Camper & Nicholsons moved from the superyacht segment to mass production. The company offers luxury lobster boats from 13.5 to 25 meters in composite materials. These are yachts with closed saloon and models with open deck layout and central console.
The shipyard had a significant impact on the development of yachting in Britain and around the world. Many of the boats in the portfolio have long been over a hundred years old, and they remain on the water and compete with modern boats.
