Dubai International Boat Show opens its doors

The Boat Show takes place in Dubai Harbor from 9 to 13 March

More than 400 boats and yachts are available to view and test drive at Dubai Harbor, the Middle East's largest marina with 1,100 berths. The 28th edition of the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) is taking place in this newly opened marina for the first time. Last year and the year before, the exhibition was not held due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the pandemic has hardly slowed down the development of the yachting industry in Dubai, according to the organizers of DIBS from the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Executive Vice President of Events Management at the Dubai World Trade Centre Trixie LohMirman said: “The challenges of the past two years have only reinforced the desire for more open lifestyles and outdoor recreation, which in turn promise new opportunities and growth for the industry. The yachting industry continues to thrive during this period.”

Of the 400 yachts on display at DIBS, 50 are superyachts. Among them are the world premiere of the Princess Y85 and the regional premiere of the Sanlorenzo SX88, as well as Van der Valk's 20m Beachclub 660 yacht ALVALI, the 28m Custom Line Navetta 30 Mrs G, the 40m Benetti Free Day and the 54m Tiara by Alloy.

The UAE boatbuilder Gulf Craft has a large presence at the Boat Show as in previous years. This year, Gulf Craft will celebrate its 40th anniversary at DIBS with four world premieres - the Majesty 111 and Majesty 120 superyachts, the 21.5m Nomad 70 explorer and the 12m Silvercat 40cc catamaran. In total, Gulf Craft brands will be represented by 14 hulls.

This year's Dubai International Boat Show is focusing on green technologies. Poland's Sunreef Yachts has brought the all-electric Sunreef 80 Eco catamaran to the UAE which will make its world premiere at the show. The same boat, but smaller in size, was ordered by the renowned F1 driver Fernando Alonso. SeaBubble, a startup from France, will present at the exhibition the SeaBubble H2 hydrogen river boat on foils, the Portuguese Faro Boats will bring the Faro 5 Solar Set, a duo of an electric boat and a solar-powered charging station. The fully carbon yacht Azimut 78 can also be referred to as conditionally green. In the engine room, there are three Volvo Penta IPS engines, but due to the use of lighter materials, fuel consumption has been significantly reduced.

The growing interest in the Dubai International Boat Show reflects Dubai's role as the yachting hub of the Middle East region.

The government is actively investing in infrastructure and taking measures to simplify legislation in the field of yacht tourism. In particular, in January 2022 the government introduced a procedure for issuing permits for yachts under a foreign flag immediately upon arrival at the marina. A permit issued by Customs allows foreign yachts to moor in Dubai for a period of 6 months. The yachting season in Dubai lasts from September to May, making this destination a good alternative to the Caribbean when the Mediterranean season comes to an end.
