In the world of superyachts, the price per gross ton is a significant indicator of luxury and exclusivity. Feadship, renowned for its impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail, recently listed its latest creation, Project 825, for sale. With an asking price of 169.5 million euros, or over 96,000 euros per gross ton, Project 825 sets an unprecedented benchmark for Northern European new-builds.

Just as it should be, the four-deck Project 825 offers an impressive volume of 1,750 gross tons and in-demand features:

  • The lower deck beach club is exceptionally spacious, with dappled light filtering through the glass-bottomed pool above.
  • On the bridge deck, a wellness centre awaits, complete with an aft-facing gym, a terrace with a bar and lounge area, a daybed, and a jacuzzi.
  • The owner's deck provides a private sanctuary, with a luxurious bedroom suite offering breathtaking views. It also has access to a terrace with a jacuzzi and seating areas.
  • A touch-and-go helipad adds to the exclusivity of the owner's deck, while a spacious bathroom, walk-in wardrobe, and private study complete the lavish accommodations.
  • Additional amenities include a sauna, a day head, and an elevator serving three decks.

What is Project 825 like?

While the exterior design is by De Voogt, the Parisian studio Gilles & Boissier, known for their work on New York's Baccarat Hotel, is developing for Project 825 a captivating interior. Earth-toned, lime washed wood and finished stone will create a tactile and inviting ambience. Floor-to-ceiling glazing will allow natural light to flood living spaces, creating an ever-changing atmosphere.

Powered by twin 2,000hp MTU diesel engines, Project 825 will achieve a top speed of 15.6 knots and maintain a cruising speed of 12. Her range will be transatlantic - 5,000 nautical miles. Accommodating up to 12 guests in six cabins and boasting space for a crew of 17, Project 825 will offer versatility and luxury on a grand scale.

The rarity of purchasing a large yacht currently under construction at a Northern European shipyard adds to Project 825's allure. Feadship's reputation for excellence and the scarcity of such opportunities make this vessel a highly coveted acquisition. Burgess Yachts, appointed as the central agent for the sale, emphasises the exclusivity of this offering.

The surprising price of a new Feadship

The unveiling of Project 825 has sparked intense discussions within the yachting community, particularly regarding its pricing. Luca Mosca, now a rotational captain of a 100-metre yacht by Lurssen, previously captain of 85-metre explorer Victorious and 51-metre explorer Tribu, took to LinkedIn to question whether the 169.5 million euros asking price, equating to over 96,000 euros per gross ton, signifies a new boundary for Northern European new-builds.

All this brings back the conversation about determining the prices of new-build yachts, especially those from esteemed shipyards like Feadship and Lurssen, which often proves challenging. Shipyards tend to keep cost data confidential, leaving industry insiders and enthusiasts to rely on price per gross ton as a basis for comparison. However, this measurement, intended for commercial shipping regulations, is not an accurate valuation tool for superyachts. Consequently, there is a lack of transparency surrounding pricing, which prompts discussions about the value of the vessels.

It is worth noting that Project 825 is one of only two Feadship yachts currently under construction and available for purchase. The other vessel, the 71.75-meter superyacht Sakura, further exemplifies Feadship's commitment to crafting extraordinary yachts that capture the imagination.
