Start-ups have developed a floating garbage can for cleaning marinas

Australians Andrew Turton and Pete Seglinski used crowdfunding service Indiegogo to raise money for production of a floating garbage bucket for cleaning marinas - Seabin.

Seabin can collect half a ton of garbage per year and is designed to clean marinas, ports and yacht clubs. Using a shore-side pump, the floating bin, attached to the floating dock, pumps water into itself, filtering debris that accumulates in a bag made from recycled polyethylene plastic. The debris-free water is then pumped back into the pump and poured into the harbor.

The startups hope to have Seabin in production by the end of 2016. At the fundraising stage, the cost of one such bin with two garbage collection bags and a 110- or 220-volt pump was $3825.
