Venus returns to Feadship for refit

One of the world's most famous superyachts, the 78.2m Venus from Feadship has arrived in Harlingen for another refit.

This is her first return to Dutch shores since her launch in 2012. The yacht, designed by French designer Philippe Starck, has previously undergone refit work, first at the Rybovich shipyard in Florida in 2013 and later at Monaco Marine in La Ciotat in 2015.

Venus was commissioned and built with the direct involvement of Apple founder Steve Jobs, who passed away a year before her completion. So far, little is known about this mysterious vessel named after the goddess of love.

For 5 years not a single photo of the interior has been made public, and one can only guess about the super-tech stuffing of the boat, given the seven iMacs installed on the bridge.

Accordingly, details of what's going on in the repair docks are also kept a closely guarded secret.

What we do know about Venus is that her hull was designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and her interior volume is 1,500 gross tons. The boat has a tender garage with port-side loading, as well as a huge lounge area with a Jacuzzi and a spacious swim platform. The vessel is powered by two MTU 16V4000 diesel engines with a total output of 3,422 hp.

The yacht's arrival heralds a busy few months for the Feadship refit crew, who have recently increased staff following a lease-out of additional docks in Harlingen.

In addition, the Dutch yard is now working on a helicopter hangar on the 86m Ecstasea Makkum, as well as repainting the superstructure and completing the helipad on the 81m Air in Harlingen. In the near future, the company plans to open a new division called Feadship Refit and Services.
