The 39-metre yacht If Only, with the owner, her family and friends on board, was peacefully approaching the coast of Nice when the airport control tower (!) reported for the first time that smoke was billowing from the yacht. The boat was less than five miles away from the shore and the rescue team had to be there quickly.
Eleven people, including four crew members, were evacuated from the boat. The fire, thought to be caused by a short circuit in the engine room, was extinguished, with no injuries, and all was relatively uneventful.
The only pity was the boat, a classic 1974 Feadship built under the name of Walanka. «However, the last refit of the boat was done in 1989, so maybe this was the case when» was a success.
