Fastest cruising hydrofoil catamaran

A look at the 101m Nemesis One concept

The project has been developed together with the French studio VPLP Design. This is at least the third Oceanwings sail concept to come out of VPLP Design in the last 3 years. Nemesis One will have a mast height of 89 metres.

Even without foils the catamaran is supposed to cruise at around 35 knots.

This will not require a large crew on board. Electronics will control all the performances and provide for adjustment of foils and sails. Laser radar will analyse the sea state and detect the obstacles on the way. Watching the 3D video from the wheelhouse, available on the Nemesis Yachts website and on the company's social networks, you get the impression that a trip on this catamaran will be more like flying on a fantastic starship than yachting.

Nemesis One will be 101 meters long and 39 meters wide. The total indoor space (1130 square meters) is enough to accommodate 4 large tennis courts. Outside, the 760 square meters could «fit» almost 3 more.

The solar panels on the roof of the superstructure will also be up to 750 square meters. They will recharge the batteries for the electric motor which will allow the catamaran to move during doldrums but will not produce harmful emissions. A hydrogen electric generator, similar to the one that has been tested on the catamaran Energy Observer for some years now, will also be installed on board. Fossil fuels will not be used on Nemesis One in any form.

Absolutely futuristic will be not only the technical stuffing of the Nemesis One but also the design of the catamaran interiors.

The design is full of polygonal elements, shiny steel and glass.

Out of context, looking at this shot, one would think that we are talking about a contemporary art gallery project.

The roof over the living quarters on the port and starboard side rises like the doors «seagull wings» of retro cars. The creators of the project propose to use a modular system, so this feature has not only aesthetic but also practical value. If necessary (e.g. when the ship is chartered) the rooms can be simply lifted with a crane and others put in their place. During the race, in order to make Nemesis One as light as possible, these units can even be left ashore.

Introduced in 2018, the F50 racing catamaran class has broken new ground in sailing history. The 15-metre foilers with wing sails are capable of flying over the water as fast as any sports boat before - at speeds of over 50 knots.

Only 2 years later, designers are ready to apply new technologies to create even more impressive catamarans, which will be suitable not only for racing, but also for luxury cruising. The first such impressive concept was unveiled by Nemesis Yachts.
