New Zealand's McMullen & Wing has certainly played an important role in the history of yachting not only in its own country, but also in the world. The company was founded by Chris McMullen and Eric Wing in 1969 on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean.
The company's first success came with a boat.
In 1981 McMullen & Wing presented the first New Zealand racing
In 1987 the company tried a new material, fiberglass, and built a yacht Kiwi Magic to participate in the America«'s Cup. Then the New Zealanders did not win, but were able to pass on her to the final.
In 1995, the shipyard built the Black Magic NZL 32, and now it has already won the America«'s Cup.
At the same time the company was engaged in service, refit, construction of superyachts and boats for the commercial segment. In 1986 the yard was sold to two brothers David & Terry Porter. The new management decided to expand these areas.
Like 50 years ago, the factory is located in Auckland. There are five assembly hangars from 30 to 57 meters long, workshops, warehouses and an office. The berth and the quayside are equipped with modern facilities including a 65 tonne ship lift.
McMullen & Wing Shipyard produces sailing and motor boats with steel and fiberglass hulls. The company builds high-speed models as well as yachts capable of crossing transatlantic distances. Renowned studios such as Vripack, H2 Yacht Design and Gregory C Marshall are involved in the development of the yacht.
One of the yard's most famous superyachts was the 45-meter
In 50 years, the McMullen & Wing shipyard has been able to gather unique experiences and achieve success. Unlike its competitors, the shipyard has not sought to take over or buy up construction sites. Instead, the shipbuilder focused on optimizing the available space. The production is almost under the same roof as the office, workshops and design department, which allows for quick resolution of problems and keeping up with schedules.
