Mecum Auctions, a long-standing and successful auctioneer, has announced the world's first auction in which a superyacht can be bought. The event will take place in Florida in May.

This business model is not yet used in the yachting industry, but organizers are confident that the auctions will be beneficial both to the owners of the yachts and those who wish to purchase them.

The inaugural sale will include more than 20 boats, seven of which fall into the superyacht category and are in excess of 75 feet in length.

Among the lots are a 130-foot Hatteras built in 1995, a 98-foot Destiny with twin 16V2000 MTU diesel engines, and a 124-foot Delta with spacious staterooms and beautiful interior design.

The starting prices for these or other vessels have not yet been disclosed.

The auction will be held on May 3. Personal presence for participation in the auction is not required. Bids, among other things, will be accepted by phone or e-mail.
