The Chinese VOR team has a broken mast

The boat of Chinese Dongfeng Race Team lost its mast during the fifth stage of the Volvo Ocean Race. Fortunately no one was injured as a result of the accident.

The incident occurred Monday, March 30, 230 nautical miles west of Cape Horn.

Representatives of the crew reported that they do not intend to continue to fight at this stage of the circumnavigation and will head to Argentina on their own.

Recall that the Chinese won the third stage of the regatta.

The race participants were on their way from Auckland to Itajai.

There were accidents during the regatta before: so, during the second leg of the race Team Vestas' boat crashed on the rocks.
